A POS app for minimarkets is tested by three things: how fast the cashier scans, whether one item can be sold by the piece, the pack and the carton without wrecking stock, and whether wholesale prices can apply automatically. This article shows how Bakasir sets up all three, then names the plan limits you should factor in.
Barcodes: fast scanning without a complicated setup
A USB scanner that behaves like a keyboard works straight away in the Desktop app, with no setup. The cashier scans from anywhere on the POS screen and the item goes into the cart. For a serial scanner, choose its port on the Devices page. In the Supermarket checkout style, items appear in a scan table with code, item, quantity, price and subtotal, plus a large total box and function keys at the side.
A product can also carry extra barcodes. That helps when a supplier changes the packaging, or when one item has a code for the single unit and another for the carton. In a CSV import, extra barcodes are separated by semicolons, and a colon after a code sets the unit that is sold when that code is scanned.
Multiple units: pcs, pack and carton
Stock is always counted in one base unit. Other units are sold as multiples of that base unit. In the Units & Barcodes section of the product form you add extra units and enter how much each contains. An illustrative example for instant noodles: the base unit is pcs, one pack holds 10 pcs and one carton holds 40 pcs.
| Unit | Contains (in pcs) | Example price |
|---|---|---|
| Pcs | 1 | Rp3,500 |
| Pack | 10 | Rp33,000 |
| Carton | 40 | Rp125,000 |
The prices in the table are examples only. Selling one carton reduces stock by 40 pcs. For purchasing there is a purchase unit with its own conversion, so goods bought by the carton from a supplier enter stock as pcs. In an import file, the units column uses name=quantity pairs, for example Pak=10;Dus=40@125000, with an optional price after the @ sign.
Tiered wholesale pricing
There are two layers of wholesale pricing:
- Retail Price and Wholesale Price. The cashier picks the wholesale price per cart line for a particular buyer.
- Quantity Pricing. This plugin lowers the unit price automatically once the quantity reaches a Min Qty. You add several tiers, and the cashier sees a Qty Price tag on lines that received a tier price. A tier price wins over the manual wholesale selector. The plugin is included in the Tumbuh plan and is a paid add-on on the Mulai plan.
The product form has a small simulation that shows the price for a quantity you type, so you can test tiers before using them at the register. The rules are in discounts, promotions and quantity prices.
POS app for minimarkets: tools that help
- Scale. Connect a scale through a COM port in the Desktop app, then press read from scale on a product sold by weight.
- Price check. The Desktop price check tile shows price and stock without making a sale.
- Shelf labels. Desktop has a label printing tile for ZPL, TSPL or ESC/POS printers. The Print Barcode plugin is a separate Windows program for printing barcode labels.
- Cashier rounding. Rounding to a multiple of 100, 500 or 1,000 helps when exact cash change is hard to prepare.
- Function keys. The Supermarket screen on Desktop uses F2 to search, F4 for the customer, F8 to hold and F12 to pay.
Stock, purchasing and stock counts
New goods come in through Purchase: pick the supplier, add the goods with their buying price, then receive. Cost is updated as part of that. For goods with an expiry date, enter the batch number and the date on the purchase line. Each month, run a count in Inventory > Stock Opname and move stock between branches with Stock Transfer. There is more in stock management for grocery stores and minimarkets.
Plan limits to keep in mind
A minimarket almost certainly has more than 100 SKUs, so the Free plan (100 products, 300 transactions a month) fits a trial only. The Mulai plan allows up to 2,000 products and 1 terminal. The Tumbuh plan allows 3 terminals and 10 staff per outlet. If your minimarket runs several cashiers at once, work out your terminal and staff needs; an extra terminal is Rp49,000 a month and an extra staff seat Rp15,000 a month. Figures can change, so check the pricing page.
Moving from your old POS
If your item list already lives in another app, do not re-enter it. The Bakasir migration engine reads exports from several popular POS apps, or you can use CSV import. Follow the guide to switching POS apps and see the switch from your old POS page.
Next steps
Prepare the 50 items scanned most often, set up pack and carton units for 5 of them, and run one full day. For the general retail picture, open Bakasir for retail.

Frequently asked questions
Can one product be sold in several units?
Yes. Stock is counted in one base unit and other units such as pack or carton are sold as multiples of it. Selling one carton reduces stock by the quantity inside that carton.
Is tiered wholesale pricing available on the Free plan?
A manual wholesale price per line is available at the register. Automatic quantity tiers need the Quantity Pricing plugin, which is included in Tumbuh or a paid add-on on Mulai.
Can I use a standard barcode scanner?
Yes. A USB scanner that works like a keyboard needs no setup in the Desktop app. A serial scanner is chosen by port on the Devices page.
